Helpful Hints on LandscapingSpringAfter the long winter ends, it’s time to start thinking about what your property needs for a successful landscaping season. It’s best during this time of year to schedule a Spring Cleanup to rid your property of all the leaves and debris from your lawn and bed areas. It is also wise to have the lawn dethatched because that will allow more moisture and air to make it to the root system of the grass, rather than being absorbed by the thatch. You may also want to think about planting annual flowers, installing other shrubs or perennial flowers or installing mulch in your beds. During this time you will also want to begin fertilizing your lawn. Fine Landscaping offers two different fertilizing programs, original and organic. SummerDuring the summer the name of the game is WATER. It is absolutely critical to water your property to maintain a healthy lawn. Lack of water can cause burnt grass areas, wilting of flowers or shrubs, and ultimately lead to the death of your grass and plants. During the summer months from July through October, pruning of all ornamental trees and shrubs may be necessary to maintain the optimum health of the plant as well as the shape and structure. As in the spring, fertilizing should continue into the summer months to keep the lawn green and healthy. Summer is also the time when weeds tend to grow the fastest. It is essential to weed your beds on a regular basis to maintain the best appearance possible. Fine Landscaping is available to weed beds or water lawns on a regular basis throughout the summer months. Please contact our office for rates. FallAs the leaves start to turn bright red, yellow and gold colors, it’s time to start thinking about scheduling your Fall Cleanup. The Fall Cleanup involves the removal of all leaves and debris from your lawn and bed areas. The Fall Cleanup should be a high priority in late fall; if the leaves are left on your lawn throughout the snowy winter months it could cause damage to your lawn. In addition to the Fall Cleanup, you should also consider scheduling a gutter cleaning which could prevent damage to the home from clogged gutters throughout the winter. You will also need to attend to your shrubs by installing deer netting which will lessen the risk of losing your plants to deer. In terms of upkeep of your lawn, aerating and slice seeding or overseeding may be necessary to promote root growth. In addition, you should add an application of lime to lawn areas; this will reduce the acid levels in soil from extended leaf cover on lawn areas. The fall is a perfect time to reseed any bare areas in your lawn as well as renovating lawns. Winterization of irrigation systems should be a top priority in the fall.
